The Euregion is divided not only politically into different regions, but also culturally and linguistically. In addition to the artificial border barrier, there is therefore also a natural language barrier. Remarkably, it appears that in the last decades, when people communicate worldwide and are on the other side of the world within 24 hours, people communicate with their neighbors increasingly poorly. In the Europe of tomorrow, it seems that a solution has been devised for this. Often a means of communication is chosen that everyone has more or less control over. Up to a certain level one can indeed make do with this.

From its inception, the DIK Foundation has chosen to respect the cultural and linguistic diversity present. She found it too easy to use a language that is foreign to the area, which creates an extra barrier for a technician to express himself. The basic principle is that everyone speaks their own language and makes this as understandable as possible for their listener. This position has been found to function within the DIK Foundation for years, and even outside of it.

This view was first put into practice at the last congress. Two interpreters were present at the convention and available to the audience. Despite the fact that the speakers and questioners came from all regions, only sporadic use was made of the interpreters. In view of this experience, this strengthens our view and we wish to continue on this path. Recognizing and understanding each other's neighbor language is the destruction of the largest barrage there is currently in the Euregion.

The DIK Drielanden Ingenieurs Kontakt Foundation is an organization to which engineering associations from the Euregion are affiliated. Currently 7 associations from North Rhine-Westphalia, Dutch and Belgian Limburg, the province of Liège and the Eupen region are constituent or associate members.

The first joint activities took place more than 20 years ago. Since then, the activities have not only become more frequent, but also increased in size. This resulted in an informal association in which a work group, consisting of members of the various associations, held consultations several times a year.

The collaboration became so intensive that it was decided to place the collaboration in a separate organization. On September 24, 1993, the founding deed of the Foundation Drielanden Ingenieurs Kontakt at the Gouvernement in Maastricht was signed by the constituent associations.

The objective of the DIK Foundation is laid down in the notarial deed:

"The DIK Foundation aims to promote contacts and cooperation between engineers and engineering associations in the Euregio Maas-Rhine, as well as to promote everything that is related to the above in the broadest sense or that can be conducive to it, without doing so. to replace the constituent associations ".

Any engineering association in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine can be admitted to the DIK Foundation. This association can then join the board and is thus a constituent association, or can renounce a seat on the board and is thus an associated association.

The DIK Foundation promotes the contacts and cooperation between Engineers and Engineers Associations in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.

And everything that is connected with this and can be jointly useful without taking the place of the association concerned.

Currently, the DIK Foundation focuses more on science and knowledge exchange in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine.
